My Save Data Is Missing or Outdated
Use this guide if a world is missing, progress appears older than expected, or Activity Log reports that a save backup did not complete. Avoid further play or repeated restarts while you identify what happened.
Stop further changes
Ask players to disconnect. If the server is running and you have permission, select Stop once and wait for Stopped. If it is already stopped, leave it stopped. If an operation will not finish or the control is unavailable, contact the owner or support.
Stopping is not a restore operation and does not guarantee an older save is preserved. Do not delete the server, generate a new world, change world identifiers, or remove mods as a recovery test. Record the first symptom and time before making any other change.
Check that it is the expected server and world
Without starting the server again:
- Confirm the server name and game in Console, including whether it belongs to you or is shared.
- Note the world, map, save slot, shard, or character you joined, where relevant to that game. Character progress and world progress are not always stored together.
- Read Game Settings for any exposed world or save selection. Not every game has such a control, and changing a displayed name does not necessarily rename an existing saved world.
- Check that the expected mods are still listed in Mods, if supported. Do not change them yet.
- Review Activity Log for the last successful session, stop, start, and settings changes. Keep any backup warning and its time.
These checks help distinguish a wrong server or world from a save problem. A Running status or “server stopped” event alone does not confirm that the latest progress was saved successfully.
Understand routine save preservation
Stopping and restarting are designed to preserve supported games' current server save data. A low-credit stop also keeps the server rather than deleting it. This is routine save preservation, not a guarantee that every recent action was saved or that historical versions are retained.
If a backup warning appears, do not assume another start will repair it. Keep the server stopped and ask support to investigate before resuming play.
Know the recovery limits
Console does not offer a self-service save download, version-history list, or restore button. There is no supported universal export or recovery procedure to follow here. Repeated starts, settings changes, or file-renaming advice for another game are not substitutes.
Support can investigate the available state, but cannot promise that an earlier save exists or can be recovered. See Save Data and Backups.
If the server was deleted
Delete Server permanently removes the server and its save data. There is no guaranteed retention period, undo action, or recovery window. Do not create another server with the same name expecting it to recover the deleted world.
If you only want to pause hosting, use Stop, not deletion.
When to contact support
Report missing or outdated progress promptly, especially after a backup warning. Keep an existing server stopped while the issue is reviewed.
Include the server name, game, expected world, last time the correct progress was seen, first time it was missing, and timezone. Describe recent changes and relevant Activity Log entries. Do not include game passwords, tokens, full player identifiers, or an unrequested save archive.
Use the support-case steps and safe evidence checklist. If the server was deleted and its support section is unavailable, use the email contact there.
